Because each of the different Ghibli heroines is so distinguishable, it’s easy to pair them with one of the twelve zodiac signs and discover yours.
The heroines in Studio Ghibli films are always such complex characters with wide ranges of emotions and are typically super strong, whether it be emotionally or physically. Each of them is so unique in their own respective ways and totally makes the movies that they’re in fantastic in every way possible.
Because each of the different Ghibli heroines is distinguishable, it’s easy to pair them to one of the twelve zodiac signs which have a set list of traits to accompany them. Here is which Studio Ghibli heroine you would be based on your zodiac sign.
12. Aries (March 21-April 19) – San
Out of all the Ghibli girls, San is the perfect depiction of an Aries. She is super fierce and a bit headstrong. She acts before she thinks, as that has become his instinct in the wild. She knows she must protect her family, the wolves, and her home, the forest.
Yet, humans continue to threaten both. Like an Aries, San is incredibly courageous and determined to help those she loves and eventually ends up helping Ashitaka for the same reason.
11. Taurus (April 20-May 20 ) – Sophie
Just like San is a perfect Aries, Sophie is an excellent Taurus. She is incredibly reliable and resourceful throughout her time in the castle and always tries to go above and beyond when it comes to saving her friends, particularly Howl.
She is patient and practical, which is why she can forgive even those who did her wrong such as the Witch of the Waste. Sophie spends a good majority of the film as the castle’s maid and shows off just how practical she is when she is cleaning up the mess of the boys.
10. Gemini (May 21-June 20) – Kiki
Kiki makes for a great Gemini in that her personality is a bit turbulent like that of a Gemini. In one moment she may be the happy, go-lucky witch who is exploring her new home, but in the next, she gets tremendously down on herself for not being good enough to the point where she even loses her powers.
Kiki is extremely curious and has the ability to learn quickly and convey her thoughts with ease, which she does time and time again throughout the film.
9. Cancer (June 21-July 22) – Chihiro
Chihiro is extremely caring, in fact, that’s what makes her so incredibly special. Throughout all the hardships Chihiro faces in Spirited Away, she continues to try to do right by people. She helps those even when she is afraid of them, even when they’ve threatened her in the past (like No Face).
Like a Cancer, Chihiro is utterly caring and a little emotional. She is intensely loyal to those that become close to her, particularly her parents who she is in a constant pursuit to save, and Haku who she trusts more than anyone.
8. Leo (July 23-August 22) – Nausicaä
Nausicaä is incredibly brave, loyal, and confident making her the perfect Leo. She doesn’t let the fact that she is a princess stop her from her defending her people in the valley and will stop at nothing to assure their safety.
She flies in her glider constantly, which is noted to be incredibly difficult and dangerous, but she does so anyway. Nausicaä is also extremely devoted to her cause and the is extremely generous and passionate about the things that she cares about.
7. Virgo (August 22-September 22) – Umi
While Umi may seem a lot simpler than many of the Ghibli heroines, that just plays right into the Virgo archetype. Virgos are shy until you get to know them, and just like a Virgo, From Up On Poppy Hill may take a Studio Ghibli fan a full watch or two to full ingest.
The story doesn’t have as many dire circumstances as many of the others do, but it is filled with heart and love and everything Studio Ghibli is known for. To further this idea, Virgos also typically like to follow a strict schedule or routine, and Umi continuously displays that she must lift the signal flags every day.
6. Libra (September 23-October 22) – Sheeta
Sheeta makes for an excellent Libra as she has a pretty defined moral compass and the idea of justice. As the princess of the castle in the sky, she knows those who want to harness the remaining power are evil and tries everything in her capabilities to stop it.
Her glowing stone is what keeps Laputa alive and she defends it from her kidnapper, Colonel Muska. Libras are pretty social, which explains why Sheeta had such ease making friends, even with those who had previously been chasing after her.
5. Scorpio (October 23-November 21) – Fio
Fio is the main heroine in Porco Rosso and is the main mechanic that helps Porco with his plane. Fio contradicts a ton of ideas based on how women were “supposed to be” in the 1920s (when this film takes place) but doesn’t really care.
Fio loves to work as a mechanic and she doesn’t let society stop her from loving it. Because of this, Fio makes an excellent Scorpio. She is driven by her emotion, by her passions and will stop at nothing, no matter what anyone says or thinks of her.
4. Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) – Ponyo
Ponyo is a fun-loving little fish seeking some new adventure, which she finds after meeting a little boy named Sosuke. Like a Sagittarius, Ponyo is extremely curious about the new world she has found herself in and cannot wait to explore it.
She has an excellent sense of humor and seems to always be able to make those around her laugh. As a Sagittarius, Ponyo is also pretty idealistic which drives her to succeed in her goals of becoming human so that she can be with Sosuke.
3. Capricorn (December 22-January 19) – Arrietty
Arrietty is extremely responsible in her film, so much so that it becomes an issue between her and the young boy, Sho, who is constantly trying to help her and family live comfortably in his home.
As a Borrower, Arrietty must take that which goes unnoticed, such as sugar cubes and tissue pieces, while being undetected from the humans who reside in the house. But once Arrietty gets caught, she takes the responsibility and lives with it, even trying to fix her mistakes by going to speak to Sho. This trait is exactly how a Capricorn would behave and is a perfect example of the sign.
2. Aquarius (January 20-February 18) – Kaguya
Kaguya is fun and whimsical and enjoys having a great time with her friends. But unfortunately, her parents think they know what is best for her and take her away from everything she loves.
Kaguya displays many signs of an Aquarius, both in her moods and by her actions. She is a deep thinker and always wants to help people. She is incredibly warm-hearted and desires freedom above all else, which is the same for Aquarius.
1. Pisces (February 19-March 20) – Shizuku
Shizuku is a dreamer and a hopeless romantic, and constantly wants the best for those she cares about. All of these traits make her the perfect Pisces. Pisces are incredibly creative and are often living in a world of their own (which makes them pretty great authors).
Shizuku displays this by coming up with a novel idea after seeing the Baron doll in the old antic shop. She also spends an entire day following a cat around Japan, just to see where it’ll lead her. Even the title of her film, Whisper of the Heart, is the perfect title for any Pisces.
