Studio Ghibli has announced that they will release all of their wonderful anime films digitally for the first time ever. Up until now, fans have never been able to buy digital copies of these films, so this is kind of a big deal.
Their entire catalogue of movies will be available to purchase on December 17th, and they will be made available on Apple TV, Amazon VOD, Vudu, Google Play, Sony, Microsoft, andFandangoNOW. The big news was shared by GKIDS Films in the following Tweet:
This is great! Both the English and Japanese versions will be available. I’ve personally never seen the Japanese versions of the films before, and those films are supposed to be very different viewing experiences. A video that you can watch here points out and explains some of those interesting differences.
The films that will be available include Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, Castle in the Sky, The Tale of The Princess Kaguya and more.
The films will also be made available to stream on HBO Max when the streaming service launches.
